Great Lakes Calcium to pay $280,000 fine in settlement - East Bay Business Times:

The settlement resolves charges that Great Lakes Calciun violated state air pollution laws and air permir requirements at its facility on the west shorelinw of the Fox River near the Bay ofGreenb Bay, the Wisconsin Department of Justicew said Tuesday. The alleged violations occurred from 2005 toFebruary 2008. The Greatt Lakes Calcium facility emits particulate matter in the form of calciujm carbonate dust created from the processinf and storageof limestone, and from several combustio processes.
The complaint charges that Greatf Lakes Calcium operated in violation of statde law and its permit by installing five processesz withouta permit, exceeding certaibn permit limits, failing to maintain records and to reportr deviations, failing to calibrate instruments, and failing to meet stack height Under the settlement, Great Lakes Calcium will pay $180,000 in forfeitures and penalty assessmentas and costs. In addition, the company will pay $100,000 to install and operatwe broken bag detectors to provide protection against excessive emissiones beyond that required bystate law.
