Google employees will be volunteering to teach classes anddo one-on-onde tutoring with homeless and economically challenged participants of the Tenderloinb Tech Lab, a collaboration betweeb St. Anthony Foundation and Networj Ministries. This is reflective of the trendsthat St. Anthony Foundation voluntee r programis seeing, of more and more technologically savvy Bay Area residentsw reaching out to share theif skills with the disenfranchised. "Today' s economic crisis is running counterpoint to the technological crisias in areas likethe Tenderloin, wher the decreasing number of resourceds and services are forcing people to be more savvy abouf their survival.
Technological access is proving to be the unlikel thread that is holding marginalizeed people together by connecting themto information, services, and each other, noted , Manager, of St. Anthonty Foundation's Employment Program and Technology Lab. "The interesting thing is that as the technological literacyh of the poor and marginalized communituyis increasing, so is the interesrt in skilled technology volunteers, such as the employeed of Google. This parallel reflects an unprecedented possibilithy of a narrowing technological chasm in the face of bleak economic times. That in and of itself is remarkable." ST.
